Friday Date Night: Intruders Starring Clive Owen #CouchCritics

Intruder, a suspense film starring Clive Owen. (Source)

Alan and I are homebodies for several reasons. We like it for one. For another we just don't have anyone to watch The Bandits while we are out. Josh use to be able to help us but now he's working and will be off to college very, very soon. Our date nights usually comprise of getting a movie from Redbox and whatever is in the fridge for leftovers lol.

Alan picking up some dessert for our date night at our local Walmart.

If we really get fancy I'll have made a dessert or Alan will pick one up on the way home. This is always how it's been even since our very first date. I married a man with children. Since he had custody it would be hard for him to get a babysitter. Especially with James' condition. Our favorite kind of movies are horror, drama, and sci-fi fantasy. I was stoked to have the opportunity to review Intruders for #CouchCritics and have a date night for under $25.00. My husband's busiest months are in the summer. Sometimes it gets so bad it feels like I'm a single parent. But that's law enforcement for you. Criminals don't take a day off, especially in the summertime.

Prepping for a date night is imperative when you have children. It doesn't matter if it's for a night out or one at home. There are always things that happen. So many variables. One thing I always consider is equality. If the kids know we are having a good time they are bound to feel left out. This means I have make sure not only that we have a good time but they will too. First and foremost is food. FOOD. It must be fun food. But here is the deal. We don't do a ton of junk. Not because I'm this super duper organic crazy. I try to do organic and all that but sometimes TIME is a even tighter commodity. Don't even get me started on Autism. That for sure limits what the girls will and will not eat. Every two weeks we get the girls a treat of McDonald's french fries but this time we got them a meal.  Next we have to make sure the teenagers are fed. So we go to Subway so they can get their spicy subs on. The boys play a video game and the girls watch a movie. Then we are home free to have a date night..YAY!

Redbox is our favorite place to get movies. It's quick and easy. More importantly it fits right into our lifestyle. Most of my shopping is done on the internet because we live in the country. The nearest store for milk is 15 miles away.

James and my husband going down the frozen food section in our local Walmart in Hornell, New York.

Our nearest Walmart is almost 30 miles away. Every time we go out it's a planned event. Redbox helps us because I can browse my local Redbox and reserve my movie without ever leaving home.

Popcorn, soda, and dessert for our date night. Along with some other necessities!

That meant that while I was out getting snacks at Walmart I could get Intruders.

My local Walmart's Redbox: Intruder was out of stock.

In theory. While online I found out that my local Walmart didn't have Intruders available. I checked when we arrived and it still wasn't there. However I was able to find another Redbox in the same shopping plaza at Wegmans that had the movie Intruders available!

However, Redbox online told me where I could get the movie Intruders nearby!

If you've never used Redbox I urge you to. The prices are low and locations are everywhere! Even in the backwater where I live lol. Getting a movie to rent is easy. All you'll need is a email address and a credit or debit card with available funds. Also sign up online. You'll earn rewards!

Renting Intruders from Redbox in Wegman's.

When we came home I laid out the spread for everyone to enjoy. Alan and I always share with the kids even if they have already eaten. Why? Because we feel guilty getting anything for ourselves. It's our way to assuage the guilt and enjoy our time lol.

Intruders is a  rated R suspense/horror flick. Clive Owen stars as John Farrow. John is a very devoted dad with strong emotional ties to his daughter, Mia (played by Ella Purnell). Their story, set in England, runs parallel to another story in Spain. The second story revolves around a little boy named Juan, played by Izan Corchero, and his mom played by Pilar Lopez de Ayala. Just like John and Mia, Juan and his mom have a tight emotional bond. Both parents are trying to protect their children from a nighttime intruder called Hollow Face. The movie was superbly cast. Although, it's not apparent at first why the two stories are connect, it slowly reveals itself to a bittersweet conclusion. The director, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, weaves intricate layers throughout the film to make sure that the horror is based on reality and in a way helps you understand that monsters are real but love conquers all.

I had so much fun doing this I'm planning another date night soon. Here is the next movie we are going to watch:
